Previous Drivel | Further Drivel

I believe today is 'the First Day of Spring' (or at least it is the Vernal Equinox).

I think that coincides rather nicely with all sorts of additions to my music collection!  At least, it makes me feel quite springlike.

The other day I received a marvellous package from hepzibahpeikko (who I hope won't mind me giving credit where credit's due!), with THREE mix CDs. :-)  I'm going to give the first one ('Obscure American Folk Singers') a go any minute now - let's face it, the things I have to get done today will barely be bearable without some sort of musical accompaniment!

I've also had a bit of educatin' and edificatin' and what have you, with the musical ministrations of yesihavecookies resulting in a good old-fashioned shopping spree.  Last night I was washing dishes to the accompaniment of Magma!  Goodness me, what fun.  I think I'm going to start a mini-collection of music that has lyrics written in 'constructed languages'.  (A few years ago I began a little mini-collection of records containing only songs that last for one minute or less, although that one stalled a bit - maybe I'll have to go back to it.  I suppose I was trying to avoid the obvious route into punk, or something.)  Other things are on their way in the mail.  My musical suggestibility level seems to be quite high at the moment!

[Can I admit to you right now that I even have my own 'constructed language'? ^_^  I know, I am a very silly girl.]

**********************************

In 'other news', I heard something on the radio recently about the Vatican issuing some new, updated 'deadly sins for the new millennium'.  Thanks, guys!  Just what we all need to really get the GUILT up and running!  The thing that made me laugh loudest and longest was their censure of 'unnecessary wealth'.  I'm sorry, but isn't THE CHURCH something like The Wealthiest Institution Ever??  Can you say 'hypocrisy'...?

[I should probably say that I am not a Catholic, or indeed anything else even slightly religious.  But it still irks me.]

And finally... on the radio this morning was a short back and forth about how a change to the UK immigration laws may spell trouble for the curry industry, in that it will be more difficult for Bangladeshi chefs to get into the country.  Some bright spark at the Ministry suggested that Eastern Europeans might make a good substitute.  After all, we've got plenty of 'em.  Oh dear.  Quite apart from the unfortunate jolly-old-colonial aroma coming off that idea ("Hnnrrff.  Foreign Johnnies, they're all alike if you ask me... sprbbbrrr..."), one of the newspapers had a quote from a curry house proprietor who had given an Eastern European sous chef a trial run.  Apparently it was not a success.  "His chapattis had a wiggly outline, like maps of Russia," was his summary of the experiment! :-)

Ahh, happy days!

The deadly sin is that of personal wealth; an institution is not a person and so cannot sin.

Hmmm, getting off on a technicality! Ingenious! :-)

Yes, wealthiest institution. You know one of the sins is to share the wealth you accumulate, right?

[Ah, yes, I thought I must be missing some highly-evolved sarcasm or something with the original post!!]

Obviously churches do a lot of charitable work etc., but goodness knows how much valuable stuff is sitting around in the Vatican's strongrooms and treasure chambers... It just seems odd to be giving out a message of 'being satisfied with enough' from an office replete with Michelangelos etc. ...

Eavesdrop, snoop, and sigh with yearning...

This journal is not a private diary, it is more like an occasional, imaginary column. Therefore, much of it is on public display. However, if you want to read my occasional attempts at creative writing, my Caution Elf tells me I should only show that stuff to my friends. You know what to do. :-)

NB: If you add me in an unsolicited fashion, please introduce yourself. Otherwise I will probably ignore you.
